Pierre SD

Post by JDT »

So I just got back from Pierre SD tonight.
I took my daughter out there for YELL.
That's the Youth Elected Legislative League for all you republicans out there.

It is a 600 miles round trip and 9 hours of windsheild time.
St. Paul, MN is half that far. Canada is even closer.

So who's idea was it to put the state capitol out there in the middle of no where?
I mean seriously it is so desolate that the prairie dogs wont even live there.

I stayed at the Super 8 Motel. This must have been the test motel to see how small they could make a room.
I could not turn around in the bathroom. I have to side step past the bed to avoid smacking my shoulder into the hangers.
The TV stuck out 6" over the stand. You know the old models with picture tubes?
Breakfast was good though and included with the $49.95 rate.

I ate lunch at the China Super Buffet. They make great food, just bad bearings.
WARNING: Stay clear of the Spicy Chicken and Seafood offering. It will come back to haunt you 5 hours later.
I noticed that most of the employees at the Chinese resturant were infact of Latio decent.
Than I remebered there was a Gladalahors Mexican Dinner next to my motel so I stuck my head in the door.
Sure enough, no Mexicans. Maybe some type of cross ethnic food service training going on.
McDonolds was par for the course with a group of adult day care employees working the counter.

There is only one auto parts salvage business in Pierre and they are not open on Saturday so I still am rimless.
A pair of used rims was on my shopping list in the big city.
I did stop at an antique store on hwy 38.
The only thing that caught my eye was a 130 year old bear trap but it had a $600 price tage on it an I left it lay.

Swung into Walgreens to buy a Suduko Book to kill time. Never seen so may piercings as they guy at the checkout counter was sporting.
He must work there so he can get a discount on anticeptics.
The guy, at least I think it was a guy, will surely develope neck strain as he has 9 pounds of metal on his head.
I know it was a guy cause girls don't even wear skinny jeans that tight.

Filled up the car at a Fresh Start Station. Gas was $3.69.
There was what looked to be a homeless guy panhandling out front. He was wearing a Vietnam Veteran ballcap.
"Got any spare change to help out a Vet down on his luck?" he asked me. What war were you in I replied?
"Nam. Can't you read my hat?" Nice try I replied. He was younger than me by a decade.

Temperate was great. But the whole state of SD is in a drought.
Send rain please.

Todd,

I just got around to reading htis post. I have spent alot of time in Pierre (pronounced Pier by the locals) as our good friends own a ranch 35 miles NW up highway 1806. You should have gone to the Dakota Mart- Groceries and Sporting goods all in the same store. Also, a great restaurant on the West end by the river next to the Ramkota. Changes names all of the time and even been in there bright and early after the Bars close and the drunks carry their fights down there. Blood and teeth everywhere. Classy joint.
But if you've never seen real cowboys, head back into Fort Pierre ( across the river) to the livestock yard and auction. That is really cool.
Always remember-Any parts leftover is money in your pocket.
