"The Last Liquifire"

Post by fastl82vette »

I thought I would post some pictures of the Liquifire that I recently found and tell the little history I know of it.

I came across an ad on one of the Facebook pages for vintage snowmobiles that had a guy asking about how he could get some head gaskets for an '83 Liquifire. When I clicked on his name to pm him and tell him to check here on jdsleds to see if anyone had some, I noticed he went to school close by where I live. I messaged him some info and asked if he had a picture and told him if he was ever interested in selling it I would like to take a look at it. He hinted to me that he might want to sell it because he had his eye on another sled. The picture he sent was kind of blurry so I ended up going to look at it and as my suspicions detected, it was an '84!!

The only history I know are the three owners before me. The gentleman I purchased the sled from who put about 150 miles on it before hitting a drift and plugging the grill with snow which caused the engine to overheat and blow the head gasket. ( they towed it home by the front bumper, hence the messed up bumper) :bonk:

The gentleman he bought it from had at one point sold it to another person who for some reason didn't want it anymore, brought it back and dropped it off. :think:

It seems fairly complete but is definitely deserving of a restoration.

Greg :beers;

You found an 84. Congrad's Greg! Whoever had it before loved swap meets or something like that... colorfull seat and I don't know how they got the windshield or front bumper and TRACTOR thermostat to fit on that sled

In case everyone didn't see the other topic - this is #420 for the '84 year, which is literally the last Liquifire off the production line, ever.

Cool story and glad to see the last of the 420 Liquifire's built for 1984 found a safe home. Previous owners did not seem to appriciate it for what it was, and what it is.

Tractor, or car or any other Temperature gauge will fit and work just fine. About $30 at your local auto parts store
