Legends of the Winnipeg to St.paul I-500

Post by T White »

The Snowmobile Hall of Fame is excited to announce that for the first time we will be taking our show on the road. This event will take place Friday February 13, 2015 at The Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center in Alexandria, MN. This will be a gathering of the folks involved with the most challenging cross country race in snowmobiling and the people that would like to hear their stories. There will be a special Display we'll be bringing along with us consisting of Winnipeg sleds , photos and memorabilia. We will also be having dinner and several guest speakers including Herb Howe, the very first winner of the Winnipeg to St. Paul I-500 in 1966, to share their memories of this historic race. The cost for day one of this event will be $75.00. If you'd like to purchase tickets please click on the attached link. http://www.snowmobilehalloffame.com/legends.htm

On day two of this event, Saturday February 14, 2015, Brian Nelson has made it possible for us to ride the final leg of the Winnipeg to Willmar I-500 from Alexandria to Willmar. We will be hitting the trail Saturday morning, about an hour after all the race sleds have left. This ride will be led by hall of famer Frans Rosenquist. The ride will be around 110 miles, at about the 60 mile mark we will stop at the I-500 fuel manifold to gas up, if you have a pre-mix sled you will need to provide your own oil, there will be gas containers available on site to mix in. There will also be a lunch buffet served at this stop, both gas and lunch will be included in the $75.00 cost of this historic ride. Vintage and modern sleds will be welcome for this day two ride. I'll post a link to buy tickets for this event as soon as they become available, probably in a week or two.

Mark your calendars, this should be a great event!

Sounds like the biggest challenge will be getting your truck and trailer from Alexandria to Willmar as your driving your sled. Transport vehicles?

While I'm very happy about the second day ride I hope everyone in the Minnesota/Dakota areas will take advantage of the Friday night reunion and dinner. This is a reunion of anyone who rode sleds, mechanics, team members, team owners etc in the Winnipeg to St. Paul I -500 as well as the Jeep 500 and Thunder Bay event. We don't want folks to think that they have to ride, that's a day two event. Hope to see a lot of you at event on February 13, 2015. Oh, this event does NOT take place of the RWTC event which will be one week earlier on February 7, 2015. Also hope to see a lot of friends there.

Exciting Don.

For clarification. So on Saturday is there a "USXC Vintage Race" and then the ride led by Frans? Or is it only the ride led by Frans?

Just trying to understand and prepare if there is going to a USXC vintage race the last day or if it is is only going to a ride similar to ride with champs. I see in the USXC I500 registration they have a "vintage race category"

Thanks so much. It is going to be an awesome 2 days.

Hi Guys,

We will be leaving about an hour after the final racers leave. Our portion of the event will be just a ride, I'm sure it will be a spirited ride at times but all just for fun. If you'd like to race you can register for the vintage class with the USXC and be timed.

Looks like GREAT fun, two weekends in a row! Friday banquet and program are a for sure event. Saturday's activities if sleds are in the mix, require some pre-planning. Now have another reason to talk sleds in July...

I just confirmed today that Archie Simonson, the winner of the 1977 I-500 will be joining us both days. On Saturday he will be riding a 1977 TXL 340 just like the one he raced back in the day.

Does anybody have a 295S, 340S or any other cross country Deere sled that would have been run in the I-500 to bring on this ride?

I had the opportunity to talk with Bob Eastman today and he will be joining us for this event. I'm looking forward to meeting him in person.

Paul Matejka, the 1979 champ, is also now coming.
