Another try... 80's LF Carbs

Post by Ryker Carruthers »

Anybody have a pair of LF carbs they would be willing to part with? Really would like to ride my sled this winter... I think I have all my clutching sorted but it still has no GO. Tops at 40 and then sowly drops...
I know where there are 6 NOS carbs but they just wont let go :wall:

What makes you think it is a carb issue? Are you using the stock air-box? if not, you need to find one. What is the RPM at 40 mph?

Ryker have you set a jack stand under the rear grab bar while it is running and tried revving it up?? If so what kind of rpms does it run upper end??

If i have the rear end suspended and rev it it will wrap clear to 8-9000 iirc. When on the ground in snow it lugs and will get up to 30 mph and not very quickly at that. Holdin gthe throttle there it will slowly bog down to where it wants to sputter and die. Wide open the same. Let off and it runs down to idle. All jets are new. Set as manual says to be. Somebody took the power jets out and when i put them back i made my own fiting since the plastic elbow was gone. And i think that may be part of it.
Would really like to find a pair to throw on and see if it is different

Sounds like a clutching issue? Take your belt off. start the sled and leave it sit on the ground and see if it makes a difference. Any chance you had your secondary apart??

Rob, i tried that too. Without the belt it had no issue screaming to 9000 and maybe more. I have had the secondary apart. Tried the spring in every hole. Now i'm back to the stock (#2) hole. It has new springs in both clutches. Engages about 4800. Did you by chance watch the videos i had linked in the other thread?

I has a new cdi.. I dont have a stator. I have one in a sport-trailfire that i would be okay with robbing. If it is the same? Reckon it can be pulled and installed without pulling engines?

It is a new stator in a sportfire motor. I had it all put together but never finished getting it set up in the trailfire. If. The stator from the sporty is the same as LF i can pull it and put it in my LF. Or would it be worth it to find a new stator just for it
