Sportfire Oil Injection Pump Question

Post by johndeere48401 »

Ok, I have a 1983 Sportfire, and I went to get it out of storage and get it ready for upcoming winter, and found the belly pan full of oil. I just completely rebuilt the engine, including new crank bearings seals, ect.last year. I decided that I wanted to put a new oil pump on it, as I could not find any rebuild kits, to repair my leaking pump. I got ahold of a guy in Eagle River wis, and he said he had a nos pump that would work on my sled, and I ordered it from him. My excitement quickly tuned to disappointment, and I tried to mount my new oil pump. The pump body looks the same, the only difference is mine had a 22 stamped into it, and the new one a 14. The major difference is how the control cable mounts, and the bell crank that the cable pulls. The new pump hits on the plate near the engine. the old pump bell crank is made differently, to accommodate. I have tried to contact the guy I bought it from and he says he has never ran into this problem, and I even emailed him pictures. Does anyone know what this pump came of off. Can I just switch the bellcrank off the old pump, to the new, and the rear cable plate? The bellcrank on the old pump is stamped "B" and on the new one "1A". :bonk: :bonk: This is really disappointing, as I was expecting something I could just bolt on and go!!!!!!! :wall:

Any Info would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank You

Yep, ran into the same problem once. A Trailfire pump (AM55406) is different than a Sportfire pump (AM55407).

OK guys I have answered my own question with a little digging into some service information bulletin at work. I came across a Sib titled identifying pump arms. It says that the pump bodies of the Am55406 and the Am55407 have different output calibrations and must not be interchanged. It also says the pump arm is the only way to identify the pumps. So I am still looking for a nos sportfire pump to purchase.

Thanks for all the replies and let me know if anyone of you has a pump they would sell me.
