Stumped by a 1973 TX 295

Post by Oldsleds »

Hi guys, looking for some advice. I am working on a TX 295 twin cylinder with twin carbs. It has spark on both cylinders, 110 psi on both sides. Problem is that it only runs on the mag side cylinder. When i put my hand over the back of the PTO side carb there is absolutely to suction either. I sprayed the crank seal behind the clutch down and could not see a change. What might this be ? It does not have reeds and the carb boot on that side is intact. Any advice and all would be great.

I would change the seals anyway.

Does the fuel pump pulse line come from the PTO side of the crankcase?

Is so check for a blown diaphram or leak on the pulse line.

I will go check. I know i have even amount of fuel from both lines though. I just can't figure out why there is no suction on the back side of that carb. Shouldn't it pull air even just cranking it over to start ? I am going to figure out what puller I need to remove the clutch and have a look at the seal to.

Here is my next idea.

The crankcase on the PTO side is totally flooded with fuel.
Hence no suction at the carb and too much fuel in the transfer ports to fire.

I got it, the fuel pump mounts directly onto the engine and seals via an o ring. Fixed the O ring and the problem is gone. Thanks for your help. Onto the next project I guess.

Been a few years since I did one of these. It was a 340.

I forgot about the direct mount pump.

Good work on the find.
