00/JDX steel gas tank gauge?

Post by 74JDX88 »

Wondering if anyone knows if the gas gauge from a JD 110 lawnmower P/N AM31189 will work on
the steel JDX tanks? They look the same in pictures.

well i found this interesting. I have a John deere 140 that i am doing a resto on so it grabbed the gauge and test fitted it on a the sled tank and they doe fit. the top and dial are the same thing but the sled tank is about 1.5 inch deeper and so the gauge from the 140 or the 110 which is the same part number is short by that 1.5 inches.

so when the gauge used from a 110 or 140 says empty you still have a reserve. :lol22:

This info should be added to the section on parts that work.
Thanks for investigating and sharing Steve.

Thanks for the good info. I'll bet the guy selling these gauges on ebay would also like to thank
you. I noticed that his sales have gone up substantially since you posted your reply to my question.

Hey Steve?
Where did you get the pricing on the AM31189?
It's only $23.93 from John Deere. The reason I ask is that when I was a dealer,
there were lots of dealers who sold parts based on Deere's suggested list price
plus an added percentage. It's worth knowing if that is what's going on when
these price discrepancies show up so that customers know that is what is going
on and can partronize another dealer perhaps. Someone who does charge John
Deere list price and not an inflated list price.

Just sayin'

I expect that difference in parts cost is due to the fact that most things tend to cost more North of the 49th parallel for any number of excuses/reasons. Not the least of which may be exchange rate...

yes most things from mother deere are very pricey up north compared to the US. I find it helps to deal with the same dealer and I always wait for the same parts guy at the counter as well. I find that bearings are the worst. Even dealers just 50 km apart have prices that vary, even though the bearing is made by the same manufacturer. but we do have free health care...LOl

It's all about greed.

Charge as much as the customer is willing to pay.

Kind of sucks but it is reality.

hahaha on the health care comment Steven.....hey wait a minute....!!!!!

Yeah, I find there are lost of guys in Canada who can't even get people to send them parts, sled, tractor or otherwise. I always say sure, just takes a little longer and costs a little more.
I even sent an NOS JD #5 mower PTO shield to a guy in France. Looked him up on Google Earth and it was the classic quaint little French village, thought that was neat.
