Reasons to attend the HoF Ride with the Champs this year...

Post by JoeRainville »

#1) To see Bob Enns' well deserved induction to the Hall of Fame:

Image

In addition to being a great guy, Bob's cross country racing record on Deere sleds from 74-78 is outstanding. He recored the fast time on Day 2 of the 1974 Winnipeg to St. Paul I-500 on a 295/s, won a race in Canada on a 340/s, took first in 4 ICCSF races on a Liquidator, winning Park Rapids in 1976 and 3 more in 1977. Plus he kept Tabor out of trouble by having him build the fastest 77 "Up-Dators" there were.

Congrats Bob, looking forward to seeing you there!

#2) In addition to Bob's induction, Tom Otte is the HoF Vice-President. This pretty much ensure's a great turn out of our Enduro Team Deere racers and mechanics. It's worth it just to meet these guys and hear their stories in person.

#5) Cool guys like Doug Oster (of ETD and Team Arctic fame) may show up and tell stories about trying to keep to keep "Snarky" Steve Tabor out of trouble:

#9) Greg "Toymech" Shuby-doo is rumored to be sneeking across the boarder to join us for the first time since 2008...(Greg is on the left in the below pic of him and Ryan Baird at their last visit to the East Beach Warehouse in Caledonia, NY)

Image

And what iron would Greg, formally known as the "International Trailfire Terrorist" be riding this time? Will he bring the rebel/outlaw Trailfire ready to blow off stop signs with the blip of the throttle? Or will be be something more fitting for "Cross Country" theme? Could the featured sled from an article last year make a showing? Only Greg knows...

Image

PS: Troy, no worries, I will be throwing Lindner under the bus soon...

#10) The winner of the first I-500 held in 1966, Herb Howe is being inducted. I know it was on a Polaris, but Deere wasn't building sleds yet. Herb brought his winning sled out the HoF this summer with a very nice display, and he was happy to share stories from racing the I-500 to being race director years later.

Herb is a great guy. I was honored to have breakfast with him at the Waconia Americinn. Which by the way has the best breakfast included with stay. We just shot the crap. Talked about sledding and family.

To relieve everyone's fear, Joe Rainville can't be everywhere at once so, you will be able to have some peace and quiet, and enjoy your weekend. Until it's "your turn" that is.

#11) The Vintage Challenge: First held in 2009, 20 to 40 brave soles attempt the 75 mile brisk paced ride up to Fishtails for lunch, and back again. Or, as Bob Amber calls it: "too challenging".

Image

Here Bob was telling Lindner how it was probably really easy to ride a mid-mount JDX-8 150 miles in one day...
