Break downs

Post by Jd sled rider »

I decided to get the sled out for a ride today, to my surprise, I ended up working on all of them insted of riding! The sportfire, threw a track clip, so no riding that, so I did some small maintenance, And parked it. Next was the liquifire. I went for a short ride, and noticed a vibration. When I investigated further, one of the new bearings in jack shaft was out. I spent the next six hours repairing that. When I got done I took it for a hell ride, and even with my big ass on it, it will still do over ninety! When I returnedi decided to get out the old mans trailfire. All was well, until I lost spark!!!! Changed the coil, and all was well until the throttle block broke. I love these old deeres, but today was a very trying day! I decided to quit after I replaced it, and decided to start drinking the Rockies Mountains finest. Already eight beers in. Hopefully others had better luck then me!, later Lincoln

Lincoln it is always better to find these little nuisence problems close to home rather than when you trailered them 400 miles for a big ride and then they show up.

With that in mind I would say your day was very productive. :thinksnow: :sled:

after sitting for 25 years I restored my 80 liquifire. I expected breakdowns to fix. had two first thing- brake block and coolant leak. 100 miles later I believe I am the weak link.

I attended the ULTRA Event in Detroit Lakes MN this weekend. Featured sled was Deere, so a lot showed up. I had gremlins however, as after riding my 800 over 30 miles last weekend, I lost all spark when I tried to trailer it. Thanks to DLDeere for looking at it for me, and we came up with a few ideas. Will check ignition switch first, then move to the CDI next. Hope it's not a stator, but as Matt & Wade mentioned in another thread, the ignition is always a wild card and can give up at any moment. Gotta love vintage sledding.
