1978 Cyclone

Post by Nasnard »

Could anyone tell me if they made a 1978 Cyclone without the storage compartment as part of the gas tank?

All '78 Cyclones and Liquifires had a storage compartment in the fuel tank. In fact, '78 was the first year that the cyclone and Liquifire had combo tank. The '78 Liquifire tank is slightly larger than the '78 Cyclone.

I h that purchased the sled newave a 78 Cyclone that was given to me by a coworker that he purchased from another coworker that purchased the sled new. The gas tank does not have storage compartment and the original owner is no longer in the area so I cannot contact him to see if the tank was changed out but I do have the original registration with his name and as far as the second owner knows it is all original except the seat.

Maybe someone got the year wrong and its actually a 77 without the compartment or switched
it to a 77 tank for extra fuel capacity. Is the sled the 78 color scheme?

The serial number you listed is not exactly correct. The 6 should be a G but your cyclone is a '78 440 by the number.
Model Year: 1978
TYPE CODE: J44FG
Serial # Range: 80,001 - 90,000
Here is the correct fuel tank

Could be a 6 I read it upside down and in the back corner of the garage that is packed with sleds from front to back.
