Carb help
I've got an 80/81 440 out of a liquifire that I've been toying with the idea of ditching the power jet carbs and switching to either regular round slides or maybe even flat slides. Reason being is that the engine is in a dator and I don't think it is possible to run a airbox, mainly because the oil tank is mounted partially where the air box would go. As of right now a lot of gas will spray out of the carbs at low speed and has a bad bog. Wondering if anyone else has done this and what jets I should start with? The motor will be ran with the dator pipes. Also I have not ran it when it's cold out, only during the summer so maybe it will change when it gets cold out, and they were already rejetted before I got the sled.

Re: Carb help
It seems like it would be easier to locate an acceptable Kioritz 440 Liquifire mill to install in a Liquidator chassis than to deal with the issues you are presenting. There is plenty of demand for a running Kawasaki 440 L/C in lots of suitable applications including Liqufires; perhaps you could use it as trade bait for a Kioritz and make your life easier.
Just my opinion, of course.

Re: Carb help
Everything is already installed in the sled so I'd like to try and get it running decent and I've already rebuilt the engine. I was just wondering if anyone else had ditched the power jet carbs for something else. I don't want to play with the jetting however until it gets colder out. I'm also running premix along with the injection so that could be causing some of the problems.
Re: Carb help
Check on Kawi trax website ,there is the conversion for the 36mm on there, jetting etc. Kawi used what was called the econo jet carb (power jet). I know there is several guys that has done the switch with great results, I belive this is most of the problem with all the 80 84 liquifires everyone is having ! Hope this helps Brock

Re: Carb help
You may run into issues trying to use the Dator pipes. You would have less tuning problems using the correct exhaust matched to the engine.

Re: Carb help
The engine has been in the sled for some time, I'm assuming it was put in some time in the 80s. And somebody took the time to rejet the carbs to the pipes so I'm assuming it was running at one point and time in the sled. Before I took the motor apart to put seals in it looked the the motor had be ruining good judging by the plugs and Pistons. Once the motor gets past the bog it runs fine in the mid and high rpm range it's just getting it through the low end. Also I can't get it to idle up far enough and the idle screws are turned almost all the way in. I'm starting to wonder if the pilot jets are ether too rich or too lean.

Re: Carb help
Just so you know, my 80 LF is completely rebuilt, carbs are dialed in, it starts on 1 pull, runs like crap in these temps and has horrible bog and won't idle high at all. When the Temp outside is correct, the beast awakens from its slumber...
