Factory and Dealer Installed options
Can anyone confirm the Factory and/or Dealer installed equipment options for the 100 series sleds were as follows:
FACTORY
1. Speedometer
2. Tachometer
3. Electric Start
DEALER
1. Passenger back rest
2. Ski shock absorbers
1977 JD300

I'm pretty sure the first three could be dealer installed as well

I think all 100 series came with a speedometer (could be wrong?). Shocks may have been standard on a '77 300, I think they came standard after '75. The rest was dealer installed.

OK. That makes sense. Thanks for the replies. It seems like all of those items are relatively straight forward to install if wanted. Cruising the Internet it looks like most of those components are still available. I wonder if these sleds came with a build list like old cars? Sure would be neat to find one with the options order. I see a lot of tachs on this series. Seems like that may have been a standard item. I have a 1977 300 as purchased from the dealer. It just has the tach. I would think speedometers would be standard before tachs? Good info, thanks again!

I don't think any of the accessories where installed at the factory like that unless that particular model had it standard. I believe they were all dealer installed. Tachs definitely were not standard except on couple models, probably the 800 and maybe 600.

Very good. Dealer must have installed it prior to delivery to the new owner. Actually not a bad business plan. Making most of those items a dealer installed options gives the buyer quite a bit of flexibility and an additional revenue stream for dealers.

The 600 we bought new had a speedo but not a tach. I have seen 100 series with no speedo

Hi Guys,
At least one of the JDX/100 series didn't come with a speedometer as Deere offered a kit. The 73 brochure states that a speedo was option on the JDX-4. The 76 brochure list a speedo as accessory for the "Green Machine" 300 and 400, as were the tach's. It also says the ski shocks were accessory on the 300. The 77 brochure also states the same things.

The '72s came with a speedo standard. Tachs, e-start, ski shocks, and hour meter, were dealer installed options.
In '73, the X8 came with speedo, tach, ski shocks, and carbides standard.
In '74, I believe the 600s came with e-start and backrest standard. I'm thinking that the 300s came with nothing, the driveshaft didn't even have the speedo drive bushing installed in it.
Just some recollections.

Joe would be correct on his reply. Years ago I had a 1976 300, that I bought from the origional owner. It has long since been sold from my hands, but it had niether a tach or a speedo. I remember selling it to help fund the new Trailfire 340 that came out in 78. I fell in love with the look of that sled as soon as I saw it. Ah yes!! Those where the days when air was clean and sex was dirty...Rob.

My '76 300 has none of the above - just a black dash with circles indicating where the cut-outs for a tach and speedo would go. Only instrument I have is the seat of the pants! It's probably better that way (for the 300's anyway). You get tearing around on those things and it feels like you are going 100mph trying to keep the shiny side up. When you actually clock them, it's disappointing. Doesn't detract from the fun factor, though!
