Took my 81 Liquifire out for a good ride on New Years Day. The sled ran great, went about 12-15 miles stopped for a hot chocolate, then started back for home. 2 or 3 miles on the way back, she started slowing down and losing rpm's, backfired a couple times and stoped. Checked some things over, pulled the plugs, they looked okay, but put new one's in, still wouldn't start, so i checked the spark and found none.Checked over the wiring,it all seamed in order. Now how to get home, called a friend, but no one home. Then some friends on sleds where going by and stopped and said there where going close by my home. So he hooked my sled up with a toe rope and pulled me home with his New Arctic Cat.
Any thoughts on why no spark. maybe a cdi box?

Re: No spark
Bob,
I have no experience with Kawi engines, but had a similar experience with my 340/S. My no spark issue turned out to be a bad stator. Does the manual give Ohm readings of what a good stator should test to verify if it's good or bad?

Re: No spark
Bob,
I had the exact same thing happen to my '80 Liquifire. The JD service manual does not mention the ohm readings. I found this info in the kawasaki Invader service manual. More than likely the CDI box quit working, that is so common on those engines. You can get an aftermarket CDI from Matt at NewBreeds.

Re: No spark
Cdi is a quick try, so is the ignition coil. Just eliminate all possibilities before stator. Let us know what you find.
