Shipping large/bulky parts other side of border
Shipping large/bulky parts other side of border
Guys. Any of you ever shipped or bought bulky parts like a snowmobile hood and recieved them from elsewhere. Wondering about costs and do,s or don,ts, exchange rates etc. Part in question would be a hood from the U.S. shipped to Ontario Canada. Just curious as I have never done anything like this before, and probably am going to get the wind knocked out of my sales when I find out. Thank you...Rob.

Anyone have an idea of cost, or whats involved in importing a bulky part for a sled?...Rob.

I know if you can get them shipped close to the border and you bring it across personally it's a lot faster and the shipping is about half.

Have the shipper take lots of pics including after he has package it and befor shipping, Insure the parcel for more than the actual value like 2x. Tracking numbers are a must. If shipping to a Parcel pickup plc near the border just remember that duty will have to be paid when you come back on item plus the cost of travel there and back so dont get blinded by the saving in lower shipping cost but this method can save a ton of money. and again insure, take pics before and after shipping, and before or during unboxing, you will be amaced at how much this can help you if a claim needs to be made.
Also take a looking to other shippers like greyhound bus and possible trucking companies. I have had good luck with getting my stuff like that.
costing is best only after it has been boxed and taken to shipping depots so they can measure and weigh item

Thank you Chris and Steve for your input. This is really good advice. I don,t really know of anyone close to the border, so a parcel would have to be sent pretty much to my post office, or courior right to my door. As I mentioned, I have never done something like this before so need to know if this is viable...Rob.

take a look online for a parcel pick up location near the border there are many small companies that do this type of service just as a thought.
