78 Spitfire pistons

Post by SpitfireKing »

Hey Gents,

Been awhile since I've been on, been busy with a few old vehicle builds, so haven't been doing anything with my sleds the last few winters.

Just curious if anyone knows a source for new Kohler 340 pistons/rings for the spitfires, I did read a forum that said the Kawi pistons would fit, but that seemed strange too me. Any help is appreciated.

Nobody has a lead or knows if the Kawi pistons will work?

I truly doubt that the Fireburst pistons will work in the Kohler. The piston you're looking for is AM54418. I do not see an aftermarket version.

Well parts reloaded showed they had everything I need, but I would advise you don’t order from them. I ordered my parts and waited a week and got no response as to if or when they would ship, sent an email to the company on day 5 and nothing back, finally sent another email on day 8 demanding either a response to shipping eta or cancel my order, I got a two word email back yesterday. By looks of things they’re not really in business anymore, and there is no way to call anyone to talk to them.

So back on the hunt for parts I guess. :(

I'm not sure IF I have any NOS pistons for the 78 Spitfire but I'm sure I have some used ones IF your interested but you'll probably have to see IF you can find rings for them, problem is I wont be able to look for the pistons until after
Christmas when I'm in Northern MN..

To answer your question IF Kawi Pistons will fit, doesn't the Kohler have steel cyl's? & I know the Kawi's are Chrome lined so then the rings wouldn't last.. you can swap steel & Nikasil but not Chrome with either of the others

Have you tried Growth Products Inc. in Crystal MI.? They advertise for Kohler snowmobile parts.
