I just picked up a 1976 Cyclone 440 that is complete but rough. Being that i am a Mid-Mount guy, i have a perfect 1974 JDX tunnel and all the parts to make a very nice sled. I was thinking of using the engine out of the Cyclone for the JDX build since it is a CDI ignition and the better 440. Is it worth parting out a complete Cyclone for this build, or would it be better to just do a total restoration on the Cyclone?
Love to hear thoughts and input from others on this
Thanks Andy

Personally, I wouldn't part out the Cyclone, especially if it is complete and easily restorable. I'm a proponent of originality when possible (keep the sled whole), but don't make them show queens in favor of good riders I can use.
That Cyclone would be an awesome restoration, and I don't think you'd be disappointed with it, especially on the trails. Does your JDX8 have its original engine? If so, I'd keep it, and learn how best to make it work with its original ignition system which would be points. There is plenty of knowledge here to walk a guy through how to replace parts or adjust and time the engine to function well. In other words, I think you have two great sleds that should be restored. Bring them back just as they would have left Horicon. My 2 cents.

Re: JDX8 or 76 Cyclone 440 Build?????
Thanks for the response Jason,
I agree keeping them original. I have just been a mid-mount guy for so long that i have never had anything but mid-Mounts, and was flirting with the idea of a custom mid-mount. The JDX tunnel i have is from a 74 JDX6 and i have a fresh rebuilt 400/22 motor for it, so i think i will just restore the JDX6 after restoring the Cyclone. I only paid $120.00 for the cyclone so i dont have much into it for starters. who knows i might like riding the Cyclone allot more and sell all my mid-mounts for more Cyclones and front mount sleds. By the way im jealous of your 75 JDX8 and 800. I have been looking for either one of those sleds for a while and cant seem to find one.

Re: JDX8 or 76 Cyclone 440 Build?????
Thanks Andy! Yes, I kinda happened upon the 800 without looking for it so had to get it. My plan was always to have a 75' X8 as the mate to it, but man it took me a while to find one that was restorable. Finally got it so been lucky I guess.
I like your plan. Get the JDX6 restored the way it should, and start the restoration on the Cyclone. I'm like you, mostly rode mid-mounts, but you will probably fall in love with the way the Cyclone performs and handles when you ride it. There's a reason JD went to front motor sleds, so I bet you'll fully enjoy it on the trail.
