1984 liquifire cdi
1984 liquifire cdi
I have a 1984 liquifire i want to restore but i am having a hard time finding a cdi box, wondering if guys are switching back to the 80-81 style since you can find the cdi and coils easily. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: 1984 liquifire cdi
You can do the switch to the 80/81 cdi but you will also need to switch the flywheel and internal coils to that setup. The housing is cast differently and will require some adaptation to install the separate coil. There has been an effort to recreate the trigger box as Deere called it, but nothing so far has materialized. Make sure the ignition is the issue before taking any other steps. The rev limiter or the switch behind the throttle pivot can be faulty and cause spark issues.

Thanks, thats kind of what i have been reading, wondering if something new came about. My sled is, i guess you could call it a fence line find, pretty decent shape though. It is missing the HSR unit.

Re: 1984 liquifire cdi
How long has it been sitting in a fencerow? It seems strange the trigger unit was pulled, but strange things seem to happen to snowmobiles. Seems like there was some chatter about replacing the entire system with something more readily available, even from Polaris or Arctic Cat, but I've heard nothing for quite a while.

Quite a while, last license was 91. Does turn over nice, needs typical stuff windshield and seat, odometer only reads 1500. There is a long forum on the ignition on these sleds, i"ll keep reading. wondering what guys do when the ign. quits.
