salsbury clutch
salsbury clutch
Hello all, restoring a 1973 JD600. Pulled the Salsbury 850 primary clutch today and it's junk ( chunks of aluminum missing from the sheave etc.) I have not been able to locate a new or used one. I'm told that a Comet 100c will work and they seem to be available on Ebay.Question is does any one know if the Comet will bolt right on without any type of adapter etc.? I believe the Comets were used on 1974 JD's. Thanks in advance for your replys

Re: salsbury clutch
I would urge you to get yourself a Comet 102-C The 100 was a good clutch, just a limited life. The 102 is just more durable. A 102 that came off a Deere is probably the safest bet, but you might still have to replace the weights and spring to match your application. A Comet will need a different retaining bolt, with the correct washer to go with it. If you look on the restoration topic for a thread titled: the last update, you can see where I ditched the Salsbury on a 73 X8 in favor of a 102. BTW, you will need a Comet secondary to go with the comet clutch.
