Re: 76-78 liquifire top speed
Thanks Brian I have very little knowledge of the speed of these. I will say my jdx8 will nearly hit that speed also. Not quite as soon mind you but close. The liquifire is a lot smoother sled to operate thats for sure.
Re: 76-78 liquifire top speed
I don't have a 76' Liquifire, but I do have the JDX8 and a 440 Cyclone.... We've debated this some as well in our circle, but with improved clutching /gearing, the 440 Cyclone is quicker than the JDX8, even though it's heavier. I'd say 60 mph is just about maxed out for the X8, but I've had my Cyclone at 70 mph (maybe a mile or two over) on a hard packed road. It gets up to speed quick, and will likely beat a Liquifire on a shorter run. Longer distance the Liquifire might best it in the end.

Re: 76-78 liquifire top speed
It's similar with the Sportfire vs Liquifire where the Sportfire is faster out of the hole to 65 where it tops out and the Liquifire blows right by.
Did some repeated 81 vs 83 Liquifire drag races on hard pack many years ago. Holeshot went to the 83 every time while a 5 mph rolling start was always the territory of the 81. Both machines had 108C's, 80-81 secondaries and 80-81 gearing.

Re: 76-78 liquifire top speed
Very interesting guys. Yes the x8 surprised me. I have since changed clutching on liquifire and feels alot better. Seems none of my clutching was original parts. I have got it close to stock now except ramps. The closest ramp i could get was the K ramps.

Have any of you removed that shelf or plate in airbox of liquifire. Looks very restrictive ?

Re: 76-78 liquifire top speed
Did some more clutching. Running k ramp with stock spring. Also picked up a multi helix from Don Amber and I took gears from 340 liquifire and put in. Sled hauls the mail now. Very impressive.
