1980 Liquifire water pump
1980 Liquifire water pump
What holds the impeller on the shaft ? Is it threaded on or am I missing something ? Also if threaded on is it right or left handed ? I am trying to rebuild my pump and need to replace the ceramic seal , but I can't get the ceramic on the shaft so I am thinking I might get it on another way. The ceramic seems be about .010" smaller i.d. than the shaft. Thanks

The impeller is cast on the shaft and can't be removed. I have had the same issue with the ID of the ceramic being too small. I chucked it in my lathe and used a cheap Harbor Freight diamond drill as a boring bar to remove material till it fit.

How close to size of the shaft does it need to be ?

Not close. The rubber that comes with the ceramic seals on the OD. As long as you don't make the ID of the ceramic so big that the carbon part of the seal hangs over you should be good. I would think this could also be accomplished freehanding something like a die grinder, dreamed, drill, ect.
