Fire Series Fuel Gauges

Post by Cdnturboz »

Is there a different gauge length for the fire series sleds? On my 1982 Trailfire LX the gauge I purchased appears to be too long - it bottoms out before it fully seats on the threads (it starts to almost thread unevenly on an angle/tries to pull out)

I tried a gutted cap from a parts sled (without the metal float rod attached) - and it threads on fine, so I can't see the threads being an issue.

From what I've seen on Newbreed and eBay they're supposed to be 12.25" long - where I measured down in my tank and it's about 12" to the top of the filler neck. Is there another length gauge or is my tank a bit warped on the bottom?

Thanks

Are you sure it is an 82? If it was made in the fall of 82, then it is an 83 model year. It will be listed on the VIN tag. The 83 and 84's had the shorter fuel gauge length. New Bread has them listed.

It’s for sure an 82 (tag says 7 - 81). I fooled around with it a bit - took the new gauge completely apart and it threads on perfectly fine with the rods and oring removed. (It just using it as a cap) I tried just the bare cap with the oring and it’s having trouble still. Must be something with my tank threads?
