Trailfire 440 Mikuni Needle Washer

Post by Cdnturboz »

Been looking through the parts diagrams, is there supposed to be a washer that goes underneath the needle cclip on a Trailfire 440?

Mine doesn’t seem to have it but not sure what it’s purpose would be or if it’s needed

I haven't worked on a Trailfire but my Liquifires and Snowfire all have the plastic washer under the needle e clip. The part diagrams on jdparts all show the washer (they call it a gasket) as item #7. Also the service manual for the trail fire mentions it (see below).

The washer basically raises the needle and makes the mixture richer.

Thanks that’s what I figured - I had looked at the older kioritz diagrams and didn’t see one so wasn’t sure if it was necessary. Sled has a bit of a mid range bog so was trying to play with the settings a bit

Edit- I’m going to drive it around a bit it currently has 50:1 mix in it as I wasn’t sure if the oil pump works. Wondering too if the excess oil is making it a bit boggy. I marked the oil tank and am watching to see if it drops.

My trailfires, sport and liqui have all had that plastic washer on them. I’ve always used them in mine but yes like Nick said it would change the fueling slightly if it was removed. Mine have run very well on the factory jetting recommendations but I’ve had issues, of course, with the choke. Have also had grief from needle and seat and float arm adjustment.
