440 Fan/dual carb? Jetting.
I am going to put 2 Mikuni carbs on a sled, which is a 440 fan cooled, single carb, 1980 sportfire. They have an intake manifold, but I am capable of making addapters. I am curious of making comparison to a 440 liquifire, obviously jetting would be different due to oil injection. (this would be one for the R&D guys).

I would start out finding specs on the same year kawi Intruder 440, they had same motor with dual carbs.

Hey Guys,
The Kawi intruder did have a dual carb, (32mm Mik's) on the T-7 440. It is very close to the Sportfire motor, except that is uses the jackshaft mounted oil pump like a Liquifire. If you are hell bent to put dual carbs on the Sport, I would suggest getting a set of Intruder jugs so you don't have to fab a manifold. For carbs I would suggest regular 34 mm Mik's or the intruder's stock 32mm's. A Liquifire air box "might" fit, but some mod's "might" be needed.
If you used dual 34's, you might want to try stock 78 LF 440 jetting, as that was about 57 hp that year, and used a 220 main jet. CHECK YOUR PLUGS for lean/rich conditions, and jet accordingly!
Good Luck,

Great thought on getting intruder jugs instead of the manifold option. I found a used intruder, and am going to give it a try. What other deere/kawasaki engines do the intruder jugs fit on? Are all the f/c kawis the same bottom end? I only have TF's. Thanks.

The best thing is to use 32mm power jet carbs. The jetting for the dual carb set up with 32's are....
jet needle-6dh7(install clip on 3rd grove)
needle jet-q-0 series 159
valve- ca 2.5
power jet -#140 left side(round reverse jet)
-#120 right side(round reverse jet)
main jet-#145(both sides)(long hex)
pilot jet-#25 (both sides).
Hope this helps.Ed

You will also have to play with the clutch, otherwise you probably wont notice the diffeerence. the twin carbs will probably shift the powerband to a higher rpm range. I would start by looking to see what setup the intruder uses and maybe go from there.
