295 jets
me not being the trusting type, started looking into my 295. Although it run, it runs fat on the top side complete with black wet plugs.
Pulled the carbs and this is what I found pto side had a 270 main and a 40 pilot jet in it, mag side 260 main and a 40 pilot. Yes they are the jd 295 carbs and the last bone head assembled one without the air screw spring.
Glad I opened them up, just wondering why would somebody install such huge main jets?
Ordered a 190 and 160 main and a pair of 30 pilots for them.
Any thoughts or ideas?

Must have real cold where they were running! Maybe that why it starts so easy! All my 295s start hard.

You'd better look see if it has 340/s jugs on it!

I get a good idea in here once in awhile! Its only cheating if you get caught right? Just kidding
B) I ask and absorb much more than than I contribute! I will look at my 295/s and 340/s motor see how they are marked also.

Jugs and heads are very similiar on both but there is a difference. Look at the cylinder cover if it is installed m65401 . On the 295/s PTO side ,the cover has an extra bolt directly in front of the fan exhaust <side> and the 340/s does not. So obviosly if that cover is off and you have a bolt hole then it is a 295/s jug.
Hope this helps

Guys
I just checked the parts book this morning and it also shows the extra bolt on the 295/s ...................340/s = M65680 vs M65401 = 295/s. Dont remember any other visual differences between the 2. Maybe others seen something else.
Good luck
