Looks like a CC raced Dator motor to me. (different paint colors on the head)
What was wrote on the yellow Hood stripe at one time?

It went through race tech inspection for a race lasting more than one day. ICCSF & the I-500 both sprayed the engine head bolts to make sure knowone went into there motors after they went through inspection. If you won or finished high in a race & If the paint was broken around the head bolts you got disqualified

Yes this one was an I-500 sled. The hood next to it is my other sled on the trailer. I have to move them at work due to space. The name that was on the stripe is Jay Rhodes as far as I can tell. I believe he never raced that one though. I have spoke with the racers of both sleds on the front of the hoods.

Dustin-

What did the racers of these sleds have to say when you told them about your find and what your intentions were?

Well Paul,
The guys sled I just got knew where it was, and had the chance to buy if he desired but he hes not really into this hobby anymore.

My first Dator the guy didn't know what had happened to it! I found his # on the internet and called him out of the blue after 31yrs (he hadn't seen it since 1976) He was surprised!

Well after tring to get this second dator started, and after a month of fixing I decided it was time to try starting it. Add the antifreeze, it seeped a little but it stopped. Good theres one more step to go, mixed up fresh gas primed the lines with an electric pump. (now I'm getting excited) flip the choke lever up and 2 pulls its firing! pulled some more still just fires. flip it half choke fires some more, Play with the throttle little bit it actually stays running now!

:o Kept it running with the throttle for about 20 min to warm it up, no major leaks. Didin't rap it too much to fill the shop! it was 70 inside and only 2 below outside. Had the exhaust on so it wasn't too bad. retorqued the head and start it a few more times. It was nothing spectacular but it runs. have some more things to ck I didn't quite like but I call it a victory. Now I need a bit warmer weather to drive It <_< Oh well next weekend looks good.

paint on head bolts was orange and yellow from what i have seen but heard that each inspector had there own grease paint marker so its anyones guess..

looks nice and done properly like the use of clutch tool nice pic.

my only question is from pics the rad looks a little beat up and corrody.. did you have it flushed?
