I used a UNI filter on my 79 Trailfire with no problems and never had to re-jet. The problem would be if you were trying that with the Power-Jet cards from the Liquifires as they do need a certain amount of vacuum to operate properly. If you do use a foam filter (like UNI) dont oil the foam, it's not needed for dust control and will just cause the filter to pick up all the belt dust and other underhood junk.

Thanks for the info, that was what I was hoping to hear. I'll be calling D K soon.

The sportfire also has the Powerjet carb....

Go up to 220 on the main jet, read the plugs and work from what you get with that setup...better safe than sorry...

sportfire1961,
If your sportfire has the power jet carb on it, you will need to track down and install the correct airbox. Without the airbox, the power jet carb will not function properly.

Harley is right , get the airbox. Keep in mind when running a PJ carb with a K&N filter that it is the PJ that needs the vacuum to work. It is the jet that must be richened up. Going up on the main does not solve the lean midrange problem. Peter
