I know the motors I have seen do not have an access or hole for the starter.
I have noticed they have a casting spot for them with no holes of any sort for a starter.
Did this installation include machining the casting?

Mine has the same set up A spot were it would need to be cut out by a plasma cutter or something. BOB

Couple things concerning 80+ Liquifires and e-start. Like Rich stated, 82+ came ready for starters to be installed. First remove the tin cover over the starter hole, then, add the starter, battery box, wiring, and key switch and your ready to go.

For the 80 & 81 LF's, you must remove the engine, drill the boss out of the crankcase (for the starter to go through), tap a couple holes for the starter mounting bolts ( I use 1/4-28 bolts for more threads than the metic bolts into the casing), and replace the flywheel with one out of a Sportfire which has the ring gear. After the engine is re-installed, then go back to the 82-84's and finish the installation of the box, wiring, etc.

Mr Deere, if you don't have a tin plate held on by a nut where a starter would go, your engine isn't the orginal 83 motor. And no, you don't need a plasma cutter. For cuttin the case, just use a hole saw making damn sure your in the middle of the boss.

And yes, 80-81's can be done and it works real nice, I have 3 done and will be doing two more 80's this summer.

I have the starter the bat box installed and the flywheel so my engine is probably and 80 and so is the other one the hole in not there either. I am going to do a full rebuild so ill let ya know what I find when i tear it down. BOB

I never new this and will be looking my Liquifires over soon.
The only one I have spent a lot of time on is my 80 that does not have a hole.
