question about crankshaft seals

Post by jake wilken »

Alright, Ive rebuilt the carb and checked compression and still having the sled bog out on me when I give it gas. I was wondering how hard it is to replace the crankshaft seals like has been suggested to me and around how much they would cost. Keep in mind that I really dont know a whole lot about engines but am pretty mechanically inclined and was going to check the library for some books on this (clymer manuals) something like that. Its a 75JD400.

;) Also are these readily available and from where and will I need special tools. I have pretty much any tool. thanks, Jake

question about crankshaft seals

According to the service manual, you can replace the pto end seal, after removing the clutch ( special tool required ) by carefully prying it out and pounding in the new one.
The manual shows a block of hardwood being used, with a hole drilled in it for the crank. They make no mention if the same procedure can be used for the mag end.
Obviously the flywheel and stator would have to be removed on that end first.
Seals are available from any of the aftermarket vendors. Central Snowmobile has them at $2.60 a piece.
