Talk on vintagesleds.com about Liquidator's

Post by sledrescue »

If you haven't seen the discussion on BS vintagesled.com you should. Here is some of the play by play comments about wanting to trade a couple of JD 300 & 400 for a Liquidator.

I like the comment that Doc Jim stated "I see them around its JUST the JD treasure sled."

I wonder if he would talk that way about his Polaris sleds. It is JUST a Polaris PDC racer????

All the below are quotes from other BS'ers

Here is the link: http://vintagesleds.com/bs/index.php?topic=5454.0

"We have looking around for a John Deere Liquidator or liquifire. Well out Bushwackin we came across a couple of really nice John Deeres. One is a 300 and the other a 400. The 400 is said to run fine but the 300 has little compression in one side. They were complete and in very nice shape as you can see in the pictures. What are we going to do with them? If any of you have a liquidater or liquifire they want to trade for both then contact me. Even if the engine is blown I will trade. These things are still out there."

"I think that you should keep them ! fix them back up ! , the good guys over at www.jdsleds.com would be good help for your questions and parts locating needs !! if your serious about trading them for a lquidator , good luck as i am sure it will take more then a couple 100 series green machines to land you a dator!, heck i have a really nice 77 and a 83 (both 440) liquifires , i wouldn't trade for them.
to the owner of a liquidator or nice liquifires the 300, 400 sleds are like old 340 colts to a Polaris guy it would be like offering a 73 fan cooled colt as a partial trade for an RXL or starfire.

I vote you two keep them fix them up ! "

"We would like to trade them for a dater or liquifire or even a cyclone. Both sleds for one even if the engine is bad."

"i think i know where theres a pair of dators im going to go ask him tomarrow if he wants to sell they been in the barn for 20 years or so they where in good shape back then"

"you guys are making these dators sound really in demand. Yes, i know that their are certain collectors for them, but, are they really worth serious $$$??? Arn't they like 1k each or something???"

"I see them around its just the JD treasure sled."

"I think there is one on ebay rite now, its under $1500"

"A complete Dator, with the correct engine, track, seat, pipes ect., is a unique sled, almost no parts interchange with the production models. Remember, this sled was an I-500 winning design.
$1000??? Surely you jest! The only sleds changing hands for that kind of money are hacked up parts sleds, or someone who hasn't a clue to what he has."

"They are in demand. DEERE guys & collectors of other makes of racers want it because it is the ultimate JD too have. Why? I look at it this way, it is the Merc Sno Twister of the CCracing circuit in 76. The sled really didn't have an equal with the disproportional amount of wins to it's credit. Brian Nelson won the I-500 & the points title with the rest of Enduro Team Deere doing very well. Also an attention grabber with the color scheme & scoop on the hood. $1000 might get you a set of pipes with extra parts. Most I've seen one bring to date was on Ebay 2yrs ago went for around $6300 unrestored runner in I would say fair to good shape." AWZ

I hate it when they talk about John Deere sleds on that site. It's like the frequency and length of posting is directly proportionate to the lack of knowledge.

I would have to agree Grant.

I see a couple of JD guys tried to set the record straight. I also see the posting as kind of humerous and entertaining as well.

As they say in the trade, any talk is good talk, and can be made into better talk, as long as they are talking!

I added my comments late last night, I should have added that it would take a truckload of 00 series sleds to trade for a Dator, and that the average guy who has a Dator most likely isn't into 00 series sleds.

Oh well, I thought the cluelessness was a hoot!
