I thought I would share our routine at the race shop in Breezy Point with you as it seems such a short time ago. It was decided the key ingrediants to winning with a young team of racers was structure, discipline, commitment, responsibility, and team work. The best way to execute this was to create a environment that 24/7 embodied these principals focused on dominating the ICCSF. It was also important to be in the center of racing for a location and one that isolated the group and provided a variable terrian to practice on. The final cornerstone was a leader that really didn't need to understand clutches or set-up, but was tough, smart, a good communicator, could deal with adversity and corporate politics, knew how to mold young men, task master on detail, and gained immediate repect in any situation. Al Anderson, ex Army Ranger Captain fit the order straight up, as did Breezy Point Mn. for the shop. It was decide that the fabrication shop for building sleds would be open space....as are the Nascar shops today, to foster openess, visual teamwork, communication, and sharing of ideas and setups. Each driver was matched with a crew chief that was chosen to maximize the strengths and offset the weakness that they possessed together. The shop was rectangular and the fabrication of specific purpose race sleds was done side by side along the to longest walls opposing each other. Al had a office overlooking the shop, parts were seperated from fab, there was a large meeting room, weight room, sled wash area, sled storage for practice sleds and broken machines. Housing was in the historic log "Facet house", over 100 years old, sitting on a small hill above the shop. Meals were family style at 1 long table that sat the entire team, and a cook named "Heavy" served us meals that fit Al's training rountine....7-12-6 every day, Heavy always had left overs ready if you missed a meal, always cookies on the table...Al strongly encouraged meals on time together as it was more oppoutunity to communicate and build teamwork.....more tommorw on the day's schedule and preparing for the race

Keep it coming, we love this stuff! Man, I need to do a "Vulcan Mind Meld" with ETD and write a book on Deere sled history. Working title: "Liquidator to Liquidation, When Deere Leaped into the Snow"

or, "Why Rodger Jansen is my hero: The story of the 340/s and ETD."

Gosh guys, this is a worldwide electronic billboard!.........I will finish this story and start another, and you know that the historic reputation of all involved must be preserved.....Right "Dator"!!! My other option is to tell the story to Grant, and have his wonderfull writting scribe the history, that way I know it will be correct and this undercurrent of mal-maturity will disappear.....having fun with all, just need to keep it right for all and let the team remain historic for racing only.................JRC

Don't let Jon fool you with this ETD straight arrow routine, Paul and I saw the companion photo to the group photo that appeared on Snopod last fall.
The one of the '76 team standing in front of the Suburban with the Dator.

These ETD guys are just as twisted as the rest of us, and that is the main thing I learned at the HOF ride. Believe me, the guys who post to this list are holding back in the name of propriety, in person they let their hair down a bit.

Understandably, stories may need to be cleaned up a bit to maintain public appearances. Carry on!

I've been thinking about this a bit more this afternoon. It occured to me that some of us here have more of a public image to look after than others.

We need to have fun, but keep in mind this is public, and some of the members here have a higher public profile.

Sounds good, Jon! I will need a few days of your time, a desk, a cot on which to take naps, a continuous flow of coffee, beef jerky, several legal pads and a nice new box of number 2 pencils.
