Picked up these machines last week. One has engine problems. It was rolled over the wrong way in the water....so water got into engine.
I believe they have the 921cc Rotax in them...135HP
Just my luck the river was flooded this weekend so I was unable to take the running one out!
Pulled the bad engine out last night. Going to have friend look at it. From what I could tell the cylinders and pistons looked good and seemed to turn over smooth.
Anyone have any experience with these machines? If you had to take a guess what would you think could be wrong. I was told when cranking the engine over it sounded pretty bad.

Eric,
Here's what I can tell you... I've gone through two PWC's now with blown motors. That's the only way I have bought them. I did the same with both. The first was a 1996 Sea-Doo XP 800 the second a 2005 Sea-Doo GTX 4-Tec Supercharged. The XP had ingested water and bent the crank & rods and the GTX I bought with only 3.2 hours on the clock for $1600. They went to do an initial oil change but forgot to put the oil back in. They took off across the lake and tossed the motor. Of course, nobody would cover it under warranty so I got an $11,000 machine for dirt. There is a company out of Florida called SBT (Short Block Technology) www.sbtontheweb.com and they specialize in PWC's. They sell motors in different states of completion. I bought the full engine for both(with exchange) and they came with a 2 year no fault unlimited hour warranty. These things are actually pretty simple to work on. Motor & pump, that's about it. The '96 was an easy project. The '05 was more difficult because of the supercharger, electronics, closed loop cooling, and the extremely tight working spaces. I took my time on both and triple checked every single thing I did and used locktite to ensure that I would have no problems. The last thing you want to do is break down on the water when you are in some remote bay on a Tuesday afternoon with no one around for miles to help.
I've heard that those 951cc motors are actually very tough engines. It's the 800cc motors you have to watch out for. Bombardier had problems with both the snowmobile & PWC 800cc motors even though they aren't even remotely the same.
My advice, add up the parts you need and then compare it to a rebuilt one from SBT and take into consideration the 2 year warranty.
I had many trouble free hours on the 800 before I sold it and I now have 2 summers of trouble free use on the 4-Tec.

Thanks Robb!
I checked out that web site and the prices are pretty reasonable. I pretty much got the non running one for free so getting a rebuilt engine may be the way to go.

Got the Sea Doo out over the weekend. Wow was that thing fun to drive! Very fast and handled great.
I was reading some specs on it.........in about 50 min at full throttle it will consume all 15 gal of gas in the tank.
So definatly not the most economical toy..ha Its worth it though. I think I went through about a 1/2 tank of gas while out on the river.
