The parts book seems to show a sheet of insulation that goes in the hood.
Anyone know what kind the 340S used?
Also, the pan seems to have adhesive on it in the area under the expansion chamber.
Anyone aware of insulation installed there? Makes sense to me.

Brian,
Here is a photo of a 340S hood with the egg crate foam still intact. All I can find is a heat deflector for the pan.

In looking at the photo you sent me, two things come to mind.
First; is that I have to remember that the sleds that I have, did not come from Horicon with those aluminum pans.
Second; did your guys put that aluminum in the front of the pan? I'm guessing they did.
The glue in the front of my pan may have been a racer mod as well.

Ouch! I can't remember... Keep in mind that the belly pan was the plastic one, not the aluminum one. The one man that would remember unfortunately passed away. It seems like JD continually sent modifications and that may have been one of them. OK, I just went back to the picture and zoomed in. The aluminum panel is a modification. I can see where we installed it. We weren't the sharpest knives in the drawer so I suspect JD sent us the modification. This may be a repeat and if so I apologize but look at the black and white picture of me in the ditches and look closely above the left ski. You'll see why the plastic belly pans didn't cut it. Don

Rich
I agree that it appears to be the second series bumper.
However, if this photo was taken before the I-500, it doesn't square with the pan damage Don has shown us ( which appeared to be the ABS pan ).
In the photo Don sent me, you can see a seies of oval holes across the front, that the aluminum pan does not have, but the bumper appears to be the Cyclone style to me.
