converting a pulley system tractor to hydrostatic

Post by tipitup »

I have a friend that wants to "modify" a pulley/belt system lawn tractor to a hydrostatic drive tractor. Anyone have any experience, advice, or places to go to get information on it.

I'd advise just buying a new hydro tractor because a new hydrostatic rear end (which he's going to need) is likely to cost within $500 of a new low price hydro tractor. I priced out a hydrostatic rear end this summer for an older MTD 16 hp tractor and it was almost $1200.00.

what problems would you see if he takes off a hydrostatic rear end from a tractor?

Space - physically they are larger so if the tractor did not originally have a hydro option there may not be enough room. Then the linkages - depending if it is a lever or pedal system.
