issues with ccw 340

Post by kevcboy »

I recently rebuilt the engine and carb in my '72 400. It starts up ok, but it just winds up to high rpms right away. I have tried adjusted both the air and fuel screws but the only thing that seems to work is holding the choke partially closed. Any suggestions?

Like rich said and if thats ok look for an air leak at the carb mont or where intake bolts on an air leak in the intake can cause high idle. When you rebuilt the carb did you adjust the tab on the inlet needle correctly if its set wrong it will let gas flow through all the time. If you can turn the high and low speed adjustments all the way in and sled still runs this could be the problem.
