unofficially, my 440 liquifire tops out around 75 or so. This is with ideal snow conditons and properly tuned.

What sled? A Trailfire will hit 55-60. I have gotten my Liquifire to around 75 before I slowed, and the sled was still pulling. Reason for braking was a stone wall coming up very fast. My brother was doing about the same (he was running another LF next to me). This was on private land open to us only. When I am trail riding on state land, the speed limit is 45, so that's how fast my sleds go. Too many game wardens with radar guns and too many idiots that want to go 75 on twisty trails to make going any faster worth it. Been almost hit more times than I can remember by people not respecting other drivers and obeying the law.
As for speed, besides gearing, trail condtions (ice, powder, deep snow), how well the sled is tuned (pig rich or tuned well), how heavy the driver is ( is the driver 150 or 225 pounds?), and how much nerve the drive has; all makes a difference.

When in doubt, I'll whip it out. I got me a rock 'n 'roll band. It's a free for all.....The Nuge

Is it a fan motor or a liquid motor? My '79 Kawi Intruder will do 75 mph all day and thats a 440 fan,my 440 Invader will do 80-85 all day ....both on nice hard packed snow, with my 160 lb butt on them.....and both will go even faster on ice.

My 340 cyclone will do 60. Back in the early 80s my dad said his buddies 81 liquifire 440 would breeze right by him top end on the lake.

Met,
Have you not read any threads on this page, specifically the one about the fastest Deere? Yes, 340 Liquidators were in fact clocked at 100 MPH on ice.
Also note that 440 cc sleds ranged in HP from the mid 20's in the early 1970's, to the high 80's during the early part of the 1980's. SnoCross 440cc racers ranged in HP from the high 90's in the late 1990's to about 110 from 04-07.
Even 1973 JDX-8's were about 42 hp, and would hit 65 plus on snow. Cyclone 440's were about 45 hp, while 70's LF were 55, and the 80's LF were about 65 hp, and could crack the high 80's to low 90's set up properly. So quit worring about what some uninformed teenage "expert" think about sled motors.

Joe thats why I made the kawi in a polaris statement wrong motor in wrong sled could be bad for speed and if its an early cat motor with a tillitson carb etc he might be lucky to get 45mph.

alright! well sounds good.. i mean 440 will prolly have like 45- 50hp as you just said... im def going to try it.. Thanks for the info!
