Why does my idle keep changing?

Post by matts73z »

This happened last year also. I have the carbs set correct and it runs great but every few times I run it I have to reset the idle. I set it up to idle at 3200-3500 rpm. I went out to ride it today and it reved up to 5000 and almost took off on me. I reset the idle to 3200 but after it warmed up it went up to 4200( after I hit the throtle) It also fluctuates while it's idleing. It will raise and lower about 150-250 rpm while idleing. I sprayed everything with carb cleaner and the idle never changed.

I also have a problem with the brake light. I wont work with the brake but lights up as soon as I touch the throtle.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I'm going out on a limb a bit here, because Kawis are not in my herd.

But from what I have gathered here, Kawasakis have a tendency to be hard on mag side seals. It tends to be tough to get starting fluid in there.

Why does my idle keep changing?

Thanks guys

I'll try adjusting some more. I soaked the carbs before I got it running this year. All the internal carb parts were replace last year. I also updated the jetting to what Rich had typed in the FAQ section.

Any idea what would cause the brake light to come on with the throttle ? I know it should get brighter with engine RPM but this thing lights up as soon as I touch the throttle and does nothing when I apply the brake.

You probably have the brake light hooked up to the rev limiter switch in the throttle
and probably the brake light switch hooked up to the rev limiter, its easy to, i know because I've done it.

Hey rich how do you go about setting the air screws on dual carbs. It seems like a pain trying to do because if one is adjusted correct it would be out of wack because the other one wasnt. BOB

It would be easier if you could run it on one cylinder to dial in one then dial in the other. I just want it to run then I will mess with it when the new Cable comes. BOB

Ya I might I wanna expand my collection. I like to go fast though and like the sound of a dual carb sled. You cant beat the pickup eaither. It fun it keeps me on my feet. It takes up all my time after school and such. I enjoy doing it so I do it. BOB

Mr Deere....been there, done that.....Q-jets, AFB's, AVS's, Marvel Schebler DLTX, Mikunis, Tilloston, Walbro's, RoosaMaster/Stanadyne DB, DB2, DB4, DC, DE, DS; all easy, just take your time and make sure everything is CLEAN before assembly. Oh, and use a manual for the settings and torque settings.
