rough idle

when i start my spit she fires right up but then has a realy rough idle and a knocking noise. do i need to go to higher octane fuel or is the carb messed up or is this normal on these motors or what? i know very little about snowmobile engines. i am a automotive mecanic and am sure if i were to be given a few things to look at i could find what shes doing but as i sit i am lost. also what screws adjust what on these carburettors and hou can you tell when its adjusted right. do you adjust it to where it feels and sounds right or is there a tool you can get to see when its right. thanks for the any help.

any guesses as to whats up or where the tuning screws are?
