Liquifire Primary Question

Post by guitardude081 »

I finally got my 108-c today. I rebuilt it with new weights and hardware, and a new spring. I put it on the sled, and it hits the frame. I figure there is one of 2 things wrong here. Either I need a 30mm taper adapter, or I need a butt load of shims. It is about 1/2" to 3/4" off. I don't even want to hear that I have the wrong clutch, because I just sold my 102-c to buy this one. The sled is ready to go, all I need to do is put gas, oil and coolant in it, and put the hood on. If anyone knows what is wrong, let me know. The clutch has no part # on it, it just has the comet logo, and 108-c written on it.

Liquifire Primary Question

Yes you have the wrong clutch. The Liquifire uses the same taper but not as deep as the other Deeres. Even if you had the right one, it needs to be mated with the right secondary and the M69170 belt to work properly. Peter

Liquifire Primary Question

Post by guitardude081 »

I have the 82-84 secondary. How much performance difference am I going to notice between the 102-c, and the 108-c? The guy I bought the 108 from swore it was from a Liquifire.

Liquifire Primary Question

Jack,

If it was off a Liquifire, it wouldn't hit the frame. The Kawi/Deere version of that clutch has a specifice bore depth (shallow!) to fit the 82-84 LF in place of the stock TR-800. You will need the 82-84 driven like Peter said, as the 108 uses the wider belt and need the 44 deg helix.

The main performance gain is from the wider gear ratio over a good old 102-C. You can gear the sled deeper, (as Deere did in 82), get better take off, and still reach the same top end speed.

Good Luck with it,

Liquifire Primary Question

I have the 82-84 secondary. Deere Daze recommended the TF helix a better hole shot, so I did that. Will a 102-c work with the 82-84 secondary? I also sold my 80-81 secondary so I'm up a creek if this stuff won't mate. I think I may just go ahead and buy a new 108exp in the spring. I've ordered 2 clutches from this guy, one was the wrong one, and one was never actually in the shop, just in his inventory. It's getting pretty frustrating.

First, the Sport clutch will not fit. Even if you have the right secondary you need the proper belt for the system. The 102 really works well, so unless you are going to put on a TR800 I would stick with the 102. Peter

Liquifire Primary Question

So what I get from this is that a 102-c will work with an 82-84 secondary, and it is as good as the 108-c. I have 2 M69170's, so I'm set with the belts. (82-84) This being the case, I think I'll find a 102-c for a Liquifire, and run that this year. Everything else is ready to go, so hopefully I can finally ride this thing again after 11 months of painstaking restoration.

P.S. That girl racing team do you know where I can get a sport windshield? (used, new, repro...)
