Loss of power

Post by JDXsand00s »

I finally rolled my 400 over 3000 miles, 450 of them without a problem since i got it last year. but several miles later i disintegrated the belt and the sleds seems to have lost some horsepower. when i run it now, it bogs at low end: it used to get up and go. it will idle and run on both cylinders and i can still get it to 40 mph, but it used to be able to reach 50. it seems sluggish and i don't know why. when i lost the belt, it shot stringlike fuzz everywhere. i found patches by the carb but when i looked at the air cleaner, the old white type, it seemed quite free of obstruction and it doesn't seem like stuff could go through there, it is a chunk of screen from a door. is it possible that belt fuzz got in the engine and is affecting performance or could it be that my replacement belt is too big and there is no longer low end power or a high top end. Thanks.

Loss of power

Check the belt, it should be 1 3/16 " wide, assuming you still have Salsbury clutches.

Loss of power

i guess there really wasn't much of a problem, must have just been something with the drivetrain. revs up now, still no low end power but will move down the trail like it should. belt seems to be the same as all the other belts on my green sleds. all of my clutches have been changed to 100c-p comets as well.
