Liquifire Crank

Post by jdsledfarm »

I bought a really strait 80 LF at a farm auction last spring, for cheap, and have been working on it a little lately. I decided to go through the engine, and everything else on the sled, instead of trying to get it running. Glad I did. Yesterday, I pulled the engine, and since it was warm out took the rest of the sled to the car wash, to get all the greasyness off it. The sled looks really good, has a nice picked track, 22/39 gears, brand new when parked replacement comet 102c. The sleds last sticker was 87.

So tonight I pulled the heads a jugs off of it to find two different pistons, and the pto side connecting rod bearing was no longer! The piston and rod had about 1/4 inch of play up and down! Ya think it knocked a little?! :lol22:

The piston on that side was marked CDM if I remember right. The other one might be Deere, but at this point it doesnt really matter. The jugs looked real nice. I don`t think the crank could even be rebuilt. Theres a ton of wear on the sides of the rod.

This makes two 80 Liquifire projects, that both have wasted cranks, the other being a sled that the previous owner decided to unhook the oil injection, and spun the center bearings in the crank, ruining the case aswell.

I have two complete engines that I havent taken apart yet, that were both seized when I got them. Maybe there is hope yet.

Kickass! I`ll probably send it to him along with the other crank. I guess I should start looking for a good case, so I can leave my spares alone for now.
