How to paint a hood

Ok, so I really screwed up. I know, I know...

What do I need to do to get paint to stick to a hood that I've sanded. I sanded the scratches out of it, wiped it down and thought I could paint it. Let's just say that I'll be starting over. The paint fisheyed and looks terrible. I just hope I have enough sandpaper to get back to square one.

Anyone have any help for me?

It's a fiberglass hood of a '72 400

Fisheye is usually caused by contamination of the surface. Wax, grease, silicone, 2-stroke oil, anything like that. Or a top coat that is incompatible with the primer.
Many top coats will fisheye if sprayed over rustoleum primer.

You need to get the hood clean. Laquer thinner should get the job done, silicone may require something more specialized.

What's the temperature where you are trying to paint? It should be at least 60 degrees, especially the surface of the hood.

What kind of paint are you using for primer and top coat? Rattle can or sprayer? Where in the Twin Cities are you located?

Primer? What's that??? No, just kidding. I did find a new hood that is in pretty good shape. I think I'll get out of the painting business all together.
