Wisconsin junk yard finds

Post by tmartin »

I was at the old salvage yard this morning looking for a good track for a trailfire when I came across a few more deere sleds. There is a trailfire lx there that looks decent. I stole the clutch off it earlier this year before I was into the collecting and now the motor has been removed. He says he still has the motor but it has a bad cylinder. The oil tank is still there and the drivetrain and track are there but the track dont look too healthy. I also came across a newer 300, maybe a 75 that is mostly complete with a real nice track and newer looking bogies. I didnt look that close at the rest of the machine but I saw a tillotson carb on it. The hood looked ok but the recoil and recoil plastic cover were gone as well as the top engine cover. Also there was some damage to the tunnel on the rear. It didnt look to serious though. There was also a newer style 600, like a 75 missing the seat and plastic engine cover. The tunnel looked good and the track is there but froze in right now. The hood looked good and the engine turned over but I stole the tillotson hd carb off it for another project of mine. I also came across some sportfire parts like an older suspension and a secondary clutch. There might be more there but I was in a hurry. I had to tap maple trees today. Im interested in 300 and 600 but dont really need them so if you guys beat me there more power to ya. If you guys would like a location or phone number PM me and ill let you in on my little secret. I hate to see them thrown out.

How many 75 600s were made approximately? I see that this was the last year they made them.

Thanks, Travis

Looks like about 1500 600s in '75.

We do it mostly as a hobby. My grandfather started it a number of years ago and when he wanted to get out of it we bought all of his equipment. We have to open, flat pan cookers and we tap about 100 trees using 200 taps. We sell mostly to the family but are open to others as well, and are by no means commercial sellers. We make, on average 40-50 gallons a year.
