atc90 stator questions

Post by tipitup »

I have what I think is a 1974 atc90, three wheeler. I'm not getting any spark. I have checked the coil, I think it is ok. checked the points and I think they are ok. Now the questions are with the stator. Does anyone know the resistance measurements I should be seeing from each side? I'm getting about .5ohm, and 4.1 ohms. The 4.1 ohm side is the side that bothers me. I have two stators and they both show that, but one manual I have says it should be 100-400 ohm. Anyone have any experience that they would love to part with.

thanks

Seams to me there is a switch on the headlight housing that has to be in a certain spot to get spark.

There are two switches, one for the lights and the other called an emergency swith. They are in the correct place for it to work. Any other ideas?

I just went through "no spark" on my '77 atc 90..... mine was the wire going to the points was touching the metal parts on the points and so it caused them to not disconnect or "open".Have you tested that your points are opening and closing electrically not just physically? I tested everything, even removed the motor to get at the coil!
Good luck!

Thanks wy, I have checked the points physically and mecanically. I think they are ok. I don't know what condition your atc90 is in, but I would be interested on what resistance values you get from the stator. If I understand it correctly you can just disconnect the wires from the stator and test each to ground and see what resistance they are. Is that something you could check and post the values you get? if so, great. If not, that's alright.

thanks
