Re: 295/S CDI
Yes, that's the correct CDI.
Re: 295/S CDI
Can Someone post a pic or at least explain how to do a CDI wiring change from the 295/S stock old style to the AM54169 CDI (liquifire CDI box) it will work with a wiring change correct. Wiring is not one of strongest skills so if you can make it simple for me!!!!
Thank You
Aaron

Re: 295/S CDI
Aaron,
You are going from the original stock 295/S trigger and stator with the 3 rubber plug ins to a rectangular 6 wire plug in on the CDI correct?

Re: 295/S CDI
The wiring on the sled is the original with the three round oval plugs (one white and two black). The NOS CDI I have has two circular plugs. The one plug has three wires coming out of the box to the round plug red, green and white. The other plug has two wires coming out of the box to the other round plug blue and yellow. The other wires on the the box are for the coils(red and white) the black wire with the round wire terminal is the ground but there is also one more black wire coming out of the box with a flat female terminal where does that go?? I know what a mess!!!!

Re: 295/S CDI
Aaron,
I had to update my 295/S ignition recently also.
The black wire with the round loop terminal end is the ground for the CDI box. It secures under one of the CDI mounting bolts. Look at the main plug in on the fan tower of your engine, you will see a short 2 or 3 inch long black wire with a white insolated cover on the end. That second black wire from the CDI with the flat female end connects here. This is for the kill switch.
I'll look tonight and make you a diagram for the trigger and stator colors.

Re: 295/S CDI
Aaron,
I checked out the triggers and stators last night. I have both the 295S "A" style and the later "B" style versions. Here is what I came up.
The two black plugs on your 295S is for the timing trigger. They connect from your 295S wiring to the CDI box 3 wire plug as follows:
Black to Red
White to Green
Red to White
The lone White plug is for the lighting coil and connects to the 2 wire plug as follows:
White to Yellow
Black to Blue
The rest:
White to #1 cyl. coil
Red to #2 cyl. coil
Black with round wire terminal is CDI ground
Black with spade end is for the kill switch.
I converted mine to all "B" style from a donor 440/22 engine. It's not the correct plugs ins for a 295 but at least they are factory Deere connectors and the "B" style rectangular stuff seems to be the most common.
Good Luck

Re: 295/S CDI
I just read Wade's post and I feel pretty stupid! Thanks for the info Wade. I did check Hewtech's wiring diagram against what I came up with and somehow they matched! I better buy a lottery ticket! Better yet I'll buy a Sportfire raffle ticket!
Aaron, not sure what you are planning on using for connections but Hewtech sells the "B" style connector ends. You mentioned wiring not being your strong suit, but I would highly recommend soldering and heat shrinking any wire splices that you have. Those crimp butt splices just aren't worth the risk in my opinion.
