taps . dies, and wire wheels are cheap so CLEAN your treads! Cutting lubricant is ONLY for cutting new threads go dry if just chasing threads or use solvent. oils will dull the tools when chasing threads.
NOTE if you have to tap new threads in aluminum use wax and keep a downward pressure on tool.
every bolt and nut use on snowmobiles has :
one washer and one lock washer when used against aluminum
one lock washer when used against steel.
exceptions are brass bolts and washers for injectors.
washers are cheap (approxiamtly 100 washers for a dollar)
if bolts/ studs/ nuts are questionable get new ones.
use of locktight or simular is as follows :
for nuts put locktight on after nut is torgued to spec. just a dab on outside where threads come out of nut. (capped nuts should Not have locktight)
for bolts and studs put a small dab on threads before insertion. any more just leaks to bottom and creates a hydralic pressure that ruins the threads.
Preference is to use red locktight .
Proper use of locks for bolts and nuts
