This coming Saturday is the 6th annual Homecoming in Crosby MN for the Scorpion family of snowmobiles.
So I drug out one of my 69 Mark III's that I started resurecting two years ago but never fired up. I had put two gallons of diesel fuel in the steel tank(not removable) two years ago as it was all tarred up inside. Last night I drained it all out. Old bubble nose Scorps had a tank drain plug in the on the bottom of the bellypan. It was like chocloate pudding! I flushed it out real good.
Tonight I put gas/oil mix in the tank and pulled it over without the spark plug in about 10 times until the fuel was at the carb. This is the first time the sled had fresh fuel in it since 1979!
I put the plug back in and turned on the key. On the second live pull the Sachs single gurggled to life and idled perfectly.
I noticed that the headlight did not work but the taillight did. The headlight bulb was replaced and I went out on the snow for the first test ride.
It is two dark to take a picture but I will post one later.

Met Bill and Mike at the Crosby show. Spent some time talking non Deere sleds.
There were 268 Scorpions on display at the show. Pretty cool!
A few years back I came across a Hirth engine in a Bubble nose Scorp that had CDI igntion.
Research showed that two were received from Hirth in Germany and installed in two sleds.
I had one and the second was a missing link.
So what did I learn? Tasky has the other one!!!!!
Small world.

What are the odds of THAT??
Re: Crosby Scorpion Reunion
HELLO Eric.
As you are a Doo man you may be fimiliar with this system by Bosch. It was the predicessor to the polaron CDI used on the first RV"S or Blizzards. It is the one with a box for each cylinder.
Yep, twice the problems.
Bill was lucky as both of his worked.
I had to sell my soul to the devil to get a good one to make my 493 live.

Re: Crosby Scorpion Reunion
Hey guys I seen some pics of the show there on vsca and it looked like a really great time . I'm hoping to have my 75 scorpion brut lc44 there next year . It is in pieces right now . I've started restoration on it but kinda at a stand still right now till the weather warms up so I can do the paint work that needs done . I wanted to go to the Crosby Reunion this year but couldn't get the time off work .
