Chaparral SSII?

Post by Cabindweller »

A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of a 76 Liquifire 340 last summer. When we got to the place to look it over There happened to be a Chaparral sitting next to it. Both sleds were in pretty good shape, they are both free but unsure if either run. The owner and he sounded willing to sell them both. The Chaparral is a SSII I swear but I have been unable to locate any info on a SSII on the web. I see there are SSIII's. I more than likley will buy thease sleds but I would like to know more about the SSII. any info would be greatly appreciated.

While Kenny Heins in the residental Chappy expert I would have to say that it is a SSIII and that the last I has broken off the emblem. Kind of like the hundreds of ARCTI CAT out there missing the C.

Jerry, I would have to agree with Todds assumption that one of the SSIII is broken off.
IF it has a Chap Fuji motor with CDI it be a 73 SSIII, the 340, 400,& 440cc engines had CDI, Engines should be marked G34BSS, G40BSS or G44BSS, also the 73 models had a glass hood & pan the had white in the inside. the 73 models also had a very heavy steel suspension that had lot of wheels mounted to them.
The sled also should have a comet clutch & a salsbury driven, if it still has the original clutch & driven on it one side of the drive belt will be straight & the other tapered like most belt are.
The counsel should cover the engine & fuel tank ( similar to the 100 series deeres ) with a trap door to open & pour fuel into the tank.
