which 340/s clutch is correct

Post by Sprailfire340 »

I picked up a parts 340/s and the clutches are different. The outer plates both look the same and say 102-c, but obviously they are different. Pics here http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac26 ... 0clutches/
Compare A vs B.

I'm inclined to think A is correct. So what is the other?

The "open" one is either a newer version, or the cover has been removed, but it's the same clutch. It's better to run them open for better cooling, less dust build-up, and ease of lubrication.

Thanks Matt. Interesting that the open one is on most original of the two sleds. The other one with all the race mods still had the closed version on it.

even the liquidator came originally with the closed clutch but the cover was quickly removed when they started burning up clutches.
Thanks,
Ted

I think they were attempting to keep the dirt and debris out and wound up keeping the belt frags and heat inside.
