Hello Everyone,
Is there a way to add electric start to 80 or 82 Liquifires. I have suffered a back/shoulder injury. My days of pulling on starter ropes are over. Please help.
Thank You,
Mike

Electric Start Liquifires?
Hey Guys,
I remember at least one guy on this page did convert his 80's LF over to electric start. I know a few Sportfire's have been done too.
Can some of you guys that did the conversions help out Mike here?
From what I remember, the case can be opened up to accept a starter motor, and all JD parts can be used.
Good Luck Mike, sorry to hear pulling on a rope is no longer an option.

Electric Start Liquifires?
Here is a quick overview in installing an electric start on a 80-81 Liquifire.
First, you must pull the engine. The flywheel must be changed to one out of a Sportfire with a ring gear (FP5459). To install, the side case will have to be removed to allow for the ring gear to be installed, then re-installed. The crankcase must be drilled for the starter, if my memory is correct, it is 1 1/2". The easiest way is to measure the boss for the correct size and use the crankcase split as a centerline. A holesaw works just fine. The starter mounting bolt holes must be drilled and tapped. I went with 1/4-28 to allow for the most threads possible. I made my own battery box, copied from an orginal one as well as the bracket use to help support and reduce starter twisting. The key switch will have to be changed (gotten from a small engine dealer). Made my own wiring harness. Soleniod and circuit breaker can be gotten from NAPA.
Doing the conversion isn't hard if you are careful and understand what you are doing (drilling, tapping, wiring). I did 3 last year and in the process of another this year. Hope this helps and let me know if you need more assistance...bob

Electric Start Liquifires?
Hello Guys,
I will start the search for the needed parts. I have to thank my friend Sam who suggested the idea of "electric start". I was just going to sell the sleds and give up!
Thank You, Joe for your kind words of support, and Bob for posting his plans.
If any of you would have or happen upon any of the parts needed, please contact me.
I do not wish to become an ex-snowmobiler. I may not ride as hard as I used to but I still look forward to just getting out on a sled. Its been a passion of mine for 38 years.
Thank you again!!
