If the key switch and the emergency switch are both good, you may have a pinched wire on the stater reassembly.

Did it run ok before you rebuilt the carburetor. What type of cd box did you use. Could be losing one cylinder at speed. Should at least idle though. I think it has to be the choke system. With the airbox off, take a small mirror and look at the valve itself as you move the choke lever. Should be 3 ...

Is there a better late model JD snowmobile than a sportfire. I have 3 and I just love them. Mostly trouble free and run forever. 80 model, 82 model, and 84 with electric start.

I would check the drive end of the track drive shaft to see if the small key has twisted off. Lots of these low miles sleds are not, because of this problem. I’ve found this out the hard way. Maybe you have already checked it. Tom

I would guess it is a conversion from a 1982 or newer sportfire or a 80-84 liquified. I’ve done this myself on older fire series. I assume it’s an all rubber track??

I found the problem. One of the wiring connectors was not plugged in all the way. I think it was the brake light connector. Everything works as it should now. I wonder what’s next on these old John Deere. Ha ha.
